Emergency Lighting Inspection
Ontario Fire Code compliant · Monthly function & annual 30-minute discharge testing.
What is Emergency Lighting Inspection?
Emergency lighting inspection verifies that every battery pack, remote head and exit sign in your building will provide at least thirty minutes of illumination during a power failure. The Ontario Fire Code and Ontario Building Code both require monthly 30-second function tests and an annual full 30-minute discharge test — with the logbook kept on site for the fire prevention officer.
First National Fire Protection performs emergency lighting inspection on every type of unit — sealed lead-acid, NiCd, lithium and central battery systems — across commercial, industrial, multi-residential, healthcare and institutional buildings in Ontario. We confirm photometric coverage, verify ISO 7010 pictograph compliance on every exit sign, and replace failed lamps, batteries and chargers on the same visit.
Every emergency lighting inspection comes with a documented logbook entry, deficiency report and photo evidence — exactly what your AHJ and insurer expect to see.
Every Emergency Lighting Inspection Visit Includes
Monthly Function Test
30-second simulated power failure on every battery pack, remote head and exit sign.
Annual 30-Minute Discharge
Full duration test under load to confirm batteries hold for the code-required 30 minutes.
Exit Sign Verification
ISO 7010 'running-man' pictograph compliance check; non-compliant signs swapped out.
Coverage Assessment
Photometric walk-through to identify dark areas, stairwells and corridors needing additional heads.
On-Site Replacements
Failed lamps, batteries, chargers and entire units replaced on the same visit.
Documented Logbook
Inspection logbook entry, deficiency list and photos retained for AHJ and insurer audits.
Ontario Fire Code & Insurer Requirements
The Ontario Fire Code requires monthly inspection and annual testing of every emergency lighting unit and exit sign in commercial, industrial and multi-residential occupancies. The Ontario Building Code mandates a minimum 30-minute duration. Missing logbook entries are among the most frequently cited deficiencies in fire prevention audits.
The 2026 OFC amendments tightened the ISO 7010 pictograph requirement for the 'running-man' exit sign — non-compliant signs must be replaced. Our emergency lighting inspection includes the full pictograph check.
